The Hospital and Medical College in Itki, Ranchi, Jharkhand, will begin with a 230-bed broad speciality hospital in its first phase and expanding to a 1,300-bed medical college in subsequent phases.
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Engineering & Maintenance Head for our hospital, with 20 plus years of proven experience in managing engineering operations and maintenance within large multi-specialty or tertiary care hospitals. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, HVAC, Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS), biomedical engineering support, utilities management, hospital infrastructure and any other facility systems maintenance. The role demands strong leadership in overseeing preventive and breakdown maintenance, engineering projects, statutory compliance, NABH/JCI accreditation requirements, energy management, vendor and contract management, and audit readiness, while ensuring uninterrupted operation of all critical hospital facilities and engineering systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility & Equipment Management:
· Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of all hospital and hostel facilities, including biomedical, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
· Service and replace old or faulty equipment, troubleshoot malfunctions, and install new machinery.
· Maintain records of facility operations, including heat, light, power, and cost management.
· Oversee the installation and commissioning of critical hospital machinery such as MRI, CT, LINAC, HVAC, and medical gas pipeline systems (MGPS).
Project Execution & Infrastructure Management:
· Lead the construction, commissioning and handover of multispecialty hospital and medical college.
· Manage large-scale electrical and maintenance projects, ensuring timely completion and budget control.
· Plan and supervise civil work including painting, plastering, flooring, false ceiling, waterproofing, and plumbing.
· Implement energy-saving initiatives to reduce operational expenses (OPEX) and enhance sustainability.
Team & Compliance Management:
· Lead multidisciplinary teams including Electrical engineers, Mechanical engineers, Biomedical engineers and Utility engineers for ensuring round the clock operations.
· Train staff on safety policies, compliance regulations, and equipment handling.
· Conduct regular inspections and audits applicable for NABH, JCI, NABL, NBC, NMC, Fire Safety, Pollution Control Board etc to maintain regulatory compliance.
· Manage liaison with government bodies, ensuring adherence to building codes, equipment permits, and fire safety regulations.
· Oversee the safe disposal of bio-waste and ensure compliance with environmental safety norms.
Maintenance Planning & Reporting:
· Develop lifecycle management plans for major instruments, infrastructure, utilities and building assets.
· Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all critical hospital infrastructure.
· Provide weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance reports including breakdown, corrective, and predictive maintenance activities.
· Maintain equipment history records, PM checklists, logbooks, and compliance documentation.
Digital Engineering
· Lead implementation of Building Management System, Energy Management Systems and other digital engineering solutions.
· Evaluation and implementation of new initiatives such as IoT-based Preventive Maintenance, Asset Management Systems and Engineering Dashboards.
Strategic Leadership:
· Develop long-term Engineering & Facilities strategy aligned with hospital objectives.
· Prepare annual engineering business plans and capital expenditure plans.
· Advise Head of Hospital on infrastructure planning and engineering risks.
· Participate in Hospital Executive Leadership meetings.
· Lead engineering transformation and modernization initiatives.
· Support expansion projects and future infrastructure planning.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Education: B. Tech in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering is essential. Master’s degree in engineering, Hospital Administration, Facilities Management, or Business Administration (MBA) would be an advantage. Experience: 20+ years in Electrical, Maintenance, and Project Management roles in Hospital sectors (preferably ≥500 beds or a similarly complex healthcare facility) Technical Expertise:
o Large-scale Electrical, MEP, HVAC, MGPS, and biomedical infrastructure projects.
o Expertise in handling NABH, JCI, and NBC audits.
o Proven track record of cost reduction through effective maintenance strategies.
· Leadership & Management:
o Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage large technical staff
o Build a learning -oriented environment that encourages continuous learning, knowledge sharing and evidence-based practice across teams.
o Lead and embed the Foundations’ culture and values into everyday team culture. Mentor members to internalise them through conduct, collaboration and decision making.
o Excellent skills in project coordination, budgeting, and compliance management.
· Software Knowledge:
o Familiarity with ERP systems for maintenance tracking and reporting.
